(Insert Busy Signal)
By: Jeff | February 28th, 2008After yesterday - y’know, when something happened - things seem to have returned to the pre-season norm in Colorado Rapids-Land. The Official Organ’s weekly update provides a pretty forthright demonstration of this: the first section talks about heading to England/Arsenal, the second section flags the Rapids’ next pre-season game (March twenty-what-now?!), and, apart from some hawking of services and ticket information, the latest injuries round out the points of interest.
Sigh.
Well, for those still pondering yesterday’s trade, as well as rumors of things to come (at least one of them, hopefully, named Reinaldo), FC Rocky did a pretty fair round-up of yesterday’s news, clocking most the angles on the Tim Ward-for-Nicolas Hernandez trade and what might follow. And I’m not being snide there; timeliness doesn’t mean all that much in my world, so long as the information as good. And at least FC Rocky provides respectably comprehensive coverage - very much unlike that blog’s mothership, The Rocky Mountain News. At the bottom of what can only be described as their blurb on the Ward/Hernandez trade, there’s a little click that reads “Subscribe to the Rocky Mountain News.” And, if I’m reading that article and that article alone, I’d think to myself, “After that? Why on Earth would I?”
I’m just saying you don’t want to try to sell your paper on the back of something that short and half-assed; save the subscribe pitch for the bottom of your good work. Not that I can speak to the rest of the paper…

Normally George and Angel usually do a pretty good job but I think they might be mailing it in right now. The editors of the Rocky (and I am good friends with one of them) still consider futbol to be a fringe sport like major league lacrosse and NBDL basketball. I will bet that George and Angel have stories this week about prep basketball. You still get more Rapids coverage at The Rock than at The (Denver) Post, though.

I just spent the last season following the A-League while living in Sydney. Reinaldo is a quality player and should provide a solid option for the Rapids up front. I did go to a match where he missed a wide open net though. Quite funny.

Nice scouting, Travis. Thanks.
And, Chris, I tried to reply to you, but was blocked from commenting in my own space. To sum up, I once corresponded with George (Tanner) and Angel (Drawing a Blank….not his real last name) and they struck me as sincere and all-round decent. I’m sure they’re getting larded with stuff their editor deems more important….the twit.
And, yeah, the Post really sucks. If they could somehow cover soccer less without actually ceasing to cover it at all, I’m sure they’d do it.
