Colorado Rapids 2-1 Dallas: I can’t believe it, but I never did post a comment on the game last Sunday, and it was a beaut’. The Rapids used their normal relentless style of play, but also slipped one in in the 6th just for good measure. If Tom keeps scoring like that, the Rapids will be unstoppable. Also, let’s all take a moment as well to offer our weekly fawning admiration to Christian, the best thing to happen to Colorado since Champ Bailey (my brother would knife me if he knew I typed that). If you think all the talk of soccer as an art form is hype, take in a game at Dick’s and keep an eye out for Christian. What he does with a soccer ball is just short of hypnotizing. Another note is that Preston did quite well in Bouna’s absence. If he keeps it up, our club might break that pesky 0.500 ceiling.
Rapids to Host Everton August 3: Now this is going to be a game. Tickets are on sale now, but if you want to see one of the best clubs in England at Dick’s, I’d hurry. I always love seeing how US clubs stack up versus the European greats and this should be a good year to see how the Rapids can do.
Pablo to Take on Spain Tonight: Tonight Pablo puts back on the US shirt. Rapids fans, let’s say it together: “It’s about time!” He hasn’t played for the US since the Gold Cup almost a year ago (unless I’m forgetting one). It’s kind of odd that he be excluded from the national team when he was named to the best XI in that tournament.
Kansas City Wizards – Colorado Rapids Tonight: It doesn’t really feel like it in Colorado, but the Rapids do have a match tonight against the Wizards. Though I’ll be wearing my USA jersey under my clothes at work tonight, a part of my mind will be with the Rapids. The winner qualifies for the US Cup. I’ll do my best to find out what happens tonight, but my best bet will probably just be linking to the best account of the game I can find.

The big problem down the road for the Rapids: their keeper is too darn good. Bouna is going to Senegal to help his country qualify for the World Cup. This was bound to happen, as Bouna got his first cap last summer in the African Cup of Nations and Senegal’s manager was impressed with his performance (and it’s hard not to be, for whomever he plays).

While an average keeper would do well with this defense, it would be nice to have a solid backup at the only place in the roster where the Rapids are a bit thin.

Well, now they do. In exchange for Jovan and Kelly Gray, the Rapids have nabbed San Jose’s backup: Preston Burpo. He played for Chivas USA in 2006-07. He’s no star, and I doubt he will be down the road at 35 years of age, but in 2006, he did play 19 games for Chivas USA, and averaged 1.21 goals allowed per game. With the Rapids defense, he should more then a placeholder.

As for the Rapids’ end of the deal, Gray is no star. And Jovan: all I can say is it’s about time. He has had far more starts last year then he deserved. He did, on the other hand, have 6 goals, which was the best on the team (ugh), but three were on penalties which would have been made just as easily (probably) by Herculez or even Terry. He might get the new club boost for a few games, but my guess is that Kirovski is on his way out.

So, let’s get to know the newest member of the Club, and enjoy a shutout of RSL from 2006 by Preston.
