Colorado Rapids 2-1 Dallas: I can’t believe it, but I never did post a comment on the game last Sunday, and it was a beaut’. The Rapids used their normal relentless style of play, but also slipped one in in the 6th just for good measure. If Tom keeps scoring like that, the Rapids will be unstoppable. Also, let’s all take a moment as well to offer our weekly fawning admiration to Christian, the best thing to happen to Colorado since Champ Bailey (my brother would knife me if he knew I typed that). If you think all the talk of soccer as an art form is hype, take in a game at Dick’s and keep an eye out for Christian. What he does with a soccer ball is just short of hypnotizing. Another note is that Preston did quite well in Bouna’s absence. If he keeps it up, our club might break that pesky 0.500 ceiling.
Rapids to Host Everton August 3: Now this is going to be a game. Tickets are on sale now, but if you want to see one of the best clubs in England at Dick’s, I’d hurry. I always love seeing how US clubs stack up versus the European greats and this should be a good year to see how the Rapids can do.
Pablo to Take on Spain Tonight: Tonight Pablo puts back on the US shirt. Rapids fans, let’s say it together: “It’s about time!” He hasn’t played for the US since the Gold Cup almost a year ago (unless I’m forgetting one). It’s kind of odd that he be excluded from the national team when he was named to the best XI in that tournament.
Kansas City Wizards – Colorado Rapids Tonight: It doesn’t really feel like it in Colorado, but the Rapids do have a match tonight against the Wizards. Though I’ll be wearing my USA jersey under my clothes at work tonight, a part of my mind will be with the Rapids. The winner qualifies for the US Cup. I’ll do my best to find out what happens tonight, but my best bet will probably just be linking to the best account of the game I can find.

The Rapids start their Open Cup season on Tuesday with a game against the Gals at the Home Depot Center. I kind of hope the team fields a semi-serious squad. LA is missing Donovan and Beckham due to the USA vs. England match on Wednesday (on a side note: I’m kind of glad that that game hasn’t been played up as Beckham versus Donovan).

The US Open Cup always is fun. Everyone likes a knockout competition, and it’s always fun to see MLS flex their muscles (except for when that doesn’t happen. At least the Rapids might get back at the Sounders next year).

As far as I can tell, there is no way for Coloradans to see this game, which is a bummer considering that any game in the Open Cup could be the last. On the other hand, versus the Galaxy (without the only players who can score), probably not.

UPDATE: Odds are the Rapids won’t be starting their first XI tonight either. Ugo is going to be on Marcello’s show live tonight, so he isn’t going to be in LA. That makes me wish I could see the game even more. With our team’s depth, I would like to see our backups take the field.

Oh, and I guess it couldn’t hurt to make a prediction on this one: LA Galaxy 1-2 Colorado Rapids.
And that’s assuming they field Buddle. If not, forget about it: shutout.

Speaking of shutouts, Preston will probably be making his appearance as a member of the Rapids tonight. There’s only one chance to make a first impression, buddy. Do it well.

Salt Lake to Play US Cup Qualifier Tonight (Poorly)

The youngsters over at Salt Lake are going to try and get into the US Open Cup tonight. The match will kick off at 7pm and will be broadcast…nowhere. Honestly, I hate Salt Lake enough that I would, in fact, watch if it were on TV. Is that sad? Yeah, I think that’s sad.

Really, a game like this will probably go to who takes it more seriously, but I wouldn’t be surprised if both sides fielded a somewhat decent lineup. Last year, the Rapids beat Real in a qualifying match at Dick’s. The funny thing is, Salt Lake fielded their starters and the Rapids didn’t, still winning 2-1. If Salt Lake does it again, it will probably be their match to lose.

I post this mainly because it’s good news for the Rapids either way the match goes. If Salt Lake loses…well, that’s just fun. If they manage to slip through, they then face Columbus, who will surely dispatch them. The only bad news is that the Rapids don’t have a chance to eliminate them again this year for the third year in a row, but oh well. As long as Salt Lake loses, I’m happy (I’m a very happy guy).

UPDATE: Real Salt Lake 4-0 San Jose. If the Rapids hadn’t been shut out by San Jose, I would write some clever insult disparaging the significance of this win here.
