Good News! No Beckham Sunday!
By: Clint | August 24th, 2007From the Denver Post:
After playing in England’s exhibition loss to Germany on Wednesday at Wembley Stadium and on Thursday for Los Angeles in a loss to Chivas USA, Galaxy star David Beckham is unlikely to play Sunday when his team visits Colorado to face the Rapids.
After only a pair of cameos and no training sessions for nearly two months, Beckham has now played 90 minutes each in games at New York, London and Los Angeles over the past five days. Galaxy coach Frank Yallop, after his team’s 3-0 loss to Chivas in Carson, Calif., said he didn’t expect Beckham to play Sunday in Colorado.
“It’s not ideal,” Yallop said. “I don’t like to put players, any players, at risk. I felt bad for him.”
While Beckham, who did not speak to reporters after the game, winced and hobbled on his left ankle late in the game. Still, he looked far less affected by his globetrotting than his teammates.
The Rapids in March sold out tickets to Sunday’s game at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, shortly after the tickets went on sale. This week, the team made available standing-room-only tickets for the game to meet demand.
Well, we paid to NOT see him play at the all star game, now we get to pay to NOT see him play against the Rapids. Fantastic! My wife will never let me convince her to buy season tix again, that’s for sure. Well, at least we get to see 2 of the 3 worst teams in MLS play in probable rain on Sunday!

Though I have tickets, I am not going.
I want my empty seats to be a symbol of my disappointment.
Not only is Beckham not going to be at DSGP, you’re not going to see ANY of the “Stars of the Galaxy.”
“Then came the bad news from the medical staff: Not heading for the airport would be David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Chris Albright, Abel Xavier, Ty Harden, Ante Jazic and Kelly Gray — all of them suffering one type of injury or another.”
Geez.
It’s pretty obvious that the Galaxy are resting everyone for the Superliga final, and so I am staying home.
Have a nice day.

You and me both, Chuck. Although, to be honest, I’d probably go if my dog and now wife weren’t both sick.

For all of the criticism given to Clavijo, Yallop is far, far worse.
I’m glad all those soccer moms and kiddies who bought tickets for Beckham saw the home side score three goals for the second game in a row.
I live for the day when the Rapids stop promoting visitors and can use their own success to draw on-the-fence fans.

I wouldn’t have gone either. I hate soccer. Wait, come on! Support your team.

I’m excited about going to the rest of the home games now that Colorado is winning (although I love being there, regardless, as long as there are mini donuts and lemonade involved). Since I haven’t seen Rapids win in person since the opener I’ll try to look out for differences in tactics or play that are any different from what we had been seeing before August.
