LA Galaxy 3-2 Colorado Rapids
By: Kyle | June 10th, 2008…without Landon. That’s a lot of for a team to score without someone who scores about a third of their goals. That was a midfield battle if I ever saw one. There’s no two ways about it: we need Pablo, even with the brilliance of Christian in the central midfield.
Pablo’s presence might have even resulted in a Rapids win. Seriously. Here’s why: two of the Galaxy’s goals were set up by Beckham. Becks flat out beat our club, twice. Those are the kind of maneuvers Pablo shuts down well. Yeah, Beckham plays on the wing, but his assists were from the center if memory serves. The moral of the match: never play 10 v. 10 with David Beckham on the other team. The field just gets too open.
As for the Rapids’ side of the ball, it looked great for what it’s worth. Beyond keeping up the differential, those two goals didn’t do anything for the club, but they were phenomenal. Even though that doesn’t mean a whole lot, there’s nothing wrong with your club scoring great goals. Tom McManus also kept up his aggressive ways, and if you recall, he almost had another beauty to add to his recent list.
The oddest thing about the match was probably the Captain situation. Terry was supposed to be our vice-captain this year, but he doesn’t start now, so it went to Facundo. He was red carded, so then it goes to McManus. Good choices I guess, but I would probably have opted for Ugo before either of them. It was nice to see Fernando award the armband to who fills a leadership roll rather than who plays the best. I know that there are those who disagree with that idea, but I guess I’m just old fashioned.
So the curse of 0.500 remains, but the Rapids are within one game of first. Maybe someday they will win two games in a row. Come to think of it, their next two games are vs. Toronto and Houston. Interesting…
Oh, and sorry for the shoddy posting over the past week (pretend you noticed, please). I’ve been a bit preoccupied. I won’t bore you with the details, just summarize: it involved my illegal employment in the seedy underground of Thai restaurants. What can I say? I live an exciting and dangerous life.
