Rapids Gnus

By: Clint | September 27th, 2007

On the off chance anyone still reads this blog (havin’ a baby and being thrown into a job you don’t really want can cause havoc in a person’s schedule), here is my 1996-style attempt to “drop some science” about the Rapids and their latest whereabouts and a-happenings:

  • Showing how pathetic I’ve been this month, my favorite Colorado player, THE HERC, tore his ACL and lateral meniscus in practice on Sept 12 and is out for 6-9 months, and I had no idea until this moment. I’m taking my dog in for surgery for a torn ACL next week. If she’s out for 6-9 months while we’re trying to take care of a new baby, expect posts on this Rapids blog to go down to one every six months. Also, expect to see me on the local Denver news, shown on security cameras stealing baby formula and looking like I haven’t slept in 5 weeks.
  • Despite losing to Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy in two of their last three matches (add those to the loss at Toronto earlier this year and you’ve got the trifecta of suck) the Rapids STILL have a chance to win the MLS championship. What a country! Good fortune smiles on teams in a league where 15 out of 13 teams are allowed in the postseason. And, has anyone yet found another soccer/football league on Earth that has playoffs?
  • Man of the people, Stephen Keel, and Man of the Japanese People, Kosuke Kimura (the first Japanese born player to get in an MLS game, I believe) both started at RSL last week. A 1-0 loss to the worst team in the league… I hope you enjoyed what will be the high point of your stay in the Rapids first team, guys. In fact, how much longer can I say the Rapids lost to the worst team in MLS (the Galaxy, RSL, Toronto) before I have to say the Rapids lost to the SECOND worst team in MLS.

Now I’m feeling out of touch. When was the baby born? Boy or girl? Are you going to give us photos? (And if you have already and they’re somewhere in your archives…

    Well, y’know, I’m basically lazy.

Even posting infrequently, Cliff, you’re still doing the business. Timeliness only matters to idiots; good information lasts.

Congrats on papahood, by the way. I’m a huge fan of it.

My brother’s dog had ACL surgery — no worries, he was back in a flash. The only thing is, he now needs a ramp to get into the back of my brother’s car. Do you have one of those around? (A ramp, not my brother.)

I actually do have a copy of your brother here, Martha. Now, if I could just find where I left him he could help me carry the dog around!

I did a typically poor job with my explanations, of course. What I meant to say was that we’re ABOUT to have a baby (any time in the next three months thanks to the miracle of placenta previa) and the lab is going to have surgery next week. However, due to her desire to chase our greyhound around the house and yard and up and down the stairs like Jonathan Spector chasing Mark Viduka around the penalty box (that is to say, stumbling around his legs and bumping into walls/players at an alarming rate), I’ve taken to toting her 60 pounds of hair and muscle (sounds like Fabio, doesn’t it? the model from the 80s, not the Cannavaro) up and down the stairs several times a day instead of letting her run her leg right off her body.

And has anyone actually visited this site? http://www.ussoccer.com/ I just checked it out and almost went blind. It looks like Times Square at 10pm on a Saturday night.

No baby pix yet, but if you want to see my soon-to-be on the Injured Reserve list doggy, I have some shots here: http://clintcam.blogspot.com/

Oh my god, Sunshine is adorable. (But does your wife always have to go out when the dogs do? I know she’s pregnant and all, but can’t she pee inside?) Is the greyhound one of them rescued-from-racing pups?

Clint, you really do need to dig up that copy of my brother, because he just had a baby, too, and can share with you his tales of utter sleeplessness and a wildly hormonal wife. They’re hilarious.

We all go out to pee against the trees and fence. You’re saying you people don’t????

Yep, Aspen is a retired racer who we got from the Colorado Greyhound Adoption org. He’s great! Like a gigantic cat that doesn’t shed.
