MLS Players’ Name Analysis
By: Clint | February 21st, 2007When I was in high school, approximately 86% of the kids on the soccer team were named either Chad, Josh, or Aldo (I lived near a Portuguese neighborhood, and to be honest the Aldos were probably outnumbered 10-1 by the Joshes and Chads). Until MLS started I had no idea there were Americans playing soccer who WEREN’T named Chad, Josh, or Aldo.
Now that it’s possible to mine MLS player name data (and really, isn’t that what the internet was created for in the first place?), let’s find out how many current MLS players have names that sound like they were inspired by “Growing Pains” or “Full House”… I mean, what are the most popular names in MLS.
