The NBA Trumpted the Rapids Game Yesterday
By: Clint | May 1st, 2007Although to be more accurate, I scanned all 59,302 channels (thank you Comcast, for the worst TV menu imaginable) trying to find the RSL-Colo game on TV and after coming up empty, I went back to the old April/May standard: NBA playoffs.
As for the soccer-boppers, I found out about the score from the only source I need for RSL-Rapids tussles. So, hooray for Colorado, good game all around, controversial goals, yadda yadda yadda.
Now let’s move on to what makes weekdays exciting in May. Normally, first round matchups in the NBA playoffs are dreary, never-ending affairs that resemble the Seven Years War. Ugly, “defensive” strategies. Horrible outside shooting. Virtually no fast breaks. Scores that look more like Arena Football results than NBA ones.
But not this year.
With the 80s revival still going strong in the NBA, teams like the Wizards (minus their two best players, a situation that essentially gave Cleveland a bye in the first round), Suns, and Warriors have made the playoffs exciting again. Throw in the merciful first rounds in the eastern conference (just get to Cleveland/Detroit already, would ya?) that minimized the pain on viewers eyes, and the INSANELY GREAT Golden State/Dallas series and you’ve got a recipe for a fantastic playoffs this year.
My new team (since moving here I’ve returned to being a Nuggets fan for the first time since Michael Adams was on the team) put up a good fight for a couple games, but it appears the Spurs will grind them down to dust very soon. The Warriors (my team since the dawn of time - and thanks a whole lot for SUCKING CONSTANTLY since I graduated from college until the season I decide to leave the state completely. classy move, GS) were brilliant in reassembling Mullin and Nelson (now they just need to hire Tim Hardaway to be head of HR) and putting together a team of unreal athletes with the energy and team ethic necessary to pressure opponents on offense (like the Suns) and defense (like the Spurs, before they became senior citizens). And finally, the third team I’ve got a stake in are destroying the Los Angeles Kobes without needing to turn on the afterburners.
Just in case you aren’t pummeled with this information next week by ESPN and all other sports outlets: the potential second round matchup of the Suns vs. the Warriors will be the best playoff series of all time!
Oh yeah, Herculez scored again yesterday for the Rapids by cheating. Unfortunately, Johnny Law got involved and revoked the goal. Boo on that.

This is one of the games available on MLSnet. If you were to fork over your $19.95 at MLSnet.com, you, too can see this game. It’s available on-demand in the archives. It was also available on TV if you purchased the MLS Direct Kick TV package.
P.S. The Rapids website schedule is odd. The Galaxy site lists all games and all channels where they’ll be playing. The Rapids site not so much. (Is “Altitude” a Colorado-only channel?) But if you go to MLSnet.com, the video’s right where it’s supposed to be.

It’ll be a cold day in hell when I recognize Arkansas as a state, and it’ll be a second cold day in hell when I fork over my hard earned money (from the blackjack table at The Sands) to MLSnet!
