Weekend Rapids Roundup
By: Clint | February 24th, 2007With family visiting from out of town, I haven’t had much time to surf on the world wide web of internets. However, here are the latest notes and nibbles for the Rockies (for all one of you out there who cares):
- Forward Jacob Peterson made the trip with the U-23s to Japan but is still hurtin’ from an existing achilles tendon injury (I tore my achilles doing a “J R Rider-through-the-legs” layup the year he won the slam dunk contest and to THIS DAY my foot clicks when I walk! Man, that is one nasty injury.) and may end up spending more time buying Mr. Sparkle than bootin the ol’ cabbage around.
- Neal Horgan, who plays for Cork City (that’s in Ireland, not your wine cellar) had been training with the Rapids (en Mehico) but decided that even the Irish league is more prestigious than MLS. Major League Soccer: it’s fannnnnnta– oh, forget it.
- Ex-Rapids keeper Scott Garlick has retired. I wouldn’t have added this but I liked the headline at Goal.com - “Garlick “Blindsides” Real Brass With Retirement”. The fake brass were NOT blindsided as they like to keep their ear to the ground.
- Continuing their “we’re going to pound every carnival team in Mexico” tour, the Rapids beat Tuzos Cuauhtitlan 3-1. Herculez Gomez scored twice, fulfilling his little-known Thirteenth Labor.
We’ll look into the upcoming field trip to Arsenal next week. Don’t forget your permission slips, boys!
