Where Are They Now?
By: Clint | February 15th, 2007Since I’m way behind-the-times, I play the 01/02 version of Championship Manager (well, I also play it because it’s still the best version ever made). Looking back at the 01/02 Rapids roster made me wonder where some of those players ended up. Here is a sampling of what I found:
- Scott Garlick (GK) - Traded to Dallas in 2004, then traded to Really Salty Lake at the end of the 2005 season. Was the starter for RSL last season where he gave up more goals and had the worst save percentage of his career (to be fair, he also played in more games than he had in any other season).
- Marcelo Balboa (DEF) - Eventually was traded to the NY MetroStars where he played for a number of minutes so small mathematicians have not yet come up with a number small enough to describe how little he was on the field. Well… ok, it was five minutes. But that was for the entire season! Injuries got the best of him and he retired from soccer to later join up with Dave O’Brien as the [InsaneAmountOfSarcasm]GREATEST ANNOUNCING TEAM IN ALL SPORTS[/InsaneAmountOfSarcasm].
- Paul Bravo (MF) - After a strong career, retired from the Rapids and MLS to become an assistant coach with the Rapids and UCLA. However, the big news is that he’s now playing for… Hollywood United Football Club! Mr. Bravo, expect to be teamed up with a Mr. Beckham in two years time.
- Raul Diaz Arce (FW) - Raul also played his final MLS games with the Rapids. Instead of immediately moving on to coaching or announcing, he spent time playing for the Charleston Battery and the Puerto Rico Islanders (I wonder who would win in a match between those two teams?). He is a now a coach for the U.S. U-17 team. Gooooooo Raul!
