Wide World of Rapids Blogs

By: Clint | April 4th, 2007

Time for another look at what the world of blogs have on their minds regarding the Colorado Rapids:

  • Talking Soccer reports on a rumor that Celtic may be signing Rapids defender Greg Dalby after his successful trial in Scotland. Watch those fried Mars bars while you’re over there, Greg.
  • An American’s view on Futbol recaps DC United’s loss to Chivas last night, then goes on to predict a 3-0 whipping of Colorado this Saturday. Fantastic.
  • Socca Critics is yet another site guessing that DC will beat the Rapids, this time 2-1. Let me remind all you punks that Colorado is the HOME TEAM for this game and playing their first game in a STATE OF THE ART stadium and on top of that, THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS KEEL MAY PLAY 5 WHOLE MINUTES OF THE GAME. How is it that anyone can think the Rapids wont win by a score of at least 5,490 to Negative 6?
  • USA Soccer Spot preview the Western Conference of MLS and figure the Rapids have a good chance of finishing dead last. Ugh.

I’ve only been here 6 months myself, but of the places I’ve been so far there’s:

Fado (http://www.fadoirishpub.com/) which is a bit touristy and right next to Coors Field, but I like it. Looks/feels more authentic than the other pubs I’ve been to so far.

Pogue Mahone’s, which is in my little town (Parker) but is actually owned by an Irish couple and while it looks pretty standard for a US “pub”, the people make it nice.

Sobo 151 in Denver is a Czech bar (http://www.sobo151.com/) but they show all the games on their TVs. Kind of a different setting to watch soccer there.

The British Bulldog was started by an ex-Pat (English with Pakistani roots, I believe). I LOVE Pakistani food so I’m excited to see an away Rapids game here this season. I think at least one of the team’s fan clubs hangs out here, too. Yes, I said fan club. This is AMERICAN soccer and the fan club is American. Americans aren’t supporters, they are fans. Why the hell would a person go halfway and attend “soccer” “games” as a “supporter”. Pick a country, dammit!

For Clint and Wide World of Rapid Blogs: I was the “punk” who wrote the predictions for Socca Critics. While I am aware that DC United lost to Chivas, [and that Colorado may have the home town advantage] I based my predictions on the magazine Soccer America whose editors have considered DC United one of the disciplined when it comes to MLS Games. DC United has always been organized and can play a mean game. In response to calling me a “punk”, I stand by my prediction of 2-1. Roberto

Take it easy, my main man! Not only was the original post said in jest, I fully expect DC to beat the Rapids down (as they have throughout the history of MLS) - the post was a sarcastic reaction to the multitude of predictions going DCs way (similar to how Florida was widely predicted to beat the tar out of Ohio State on Monday).

I’m relatively certain that I read a positive prediction for Colorado somewhere. I’ll see if I can’t track it down, just to make you feel better.

(P.S. Nobody gets my humor either.)

I read it too… in the bizzaro-world New York Times!

Hey, at least we picked the Rapids to finish 4th over at Who Ate All the Cupcakes (http://whoateallthecupcakes.blogspot.com/2007/04/heard-around-league-2007-western.html)

I worry mostly about Big Zach in goal, the sooner he’s out, I think the better Colorado will be.

I’m sneaking in a couple Beef Wellingtons to the game on Saturday. I’ll feed them to Zach during halftime and we can test the cupcake theory. And BIG UPS to the cupcakes for not picking the Rapids to come in last!

If Zach keeps growing, no one will score on the Rapids!
